Prescribed Burn Units

Oklahoma State University is preparing to begin prescribed burnoperationsto approximately 6,000 acres of land west of Stillwater located around Lake Carl Blackwell and some areas south of Highway 51.  

Estimated start of burn operations is Thursday January 12th.

These prescribed burn operations are in support of OSU’s ongoing plan to rid the area of the extremely invasive and problematic Eastern red cedars.  

The Prescribed burn plan for Thursday is Coyle Road Unit 1 and McPherson Reserve partial unit: These areas are located on the south side of Highway 51 between Coyle Road and 19th street. Current forecasted weather conditions are within acceptable burn parameters.

CHLOETA Fire will be conducting the prescribed burns and they will notify the following dispatches and communications departments by phone on a daily basis when burn operations are occurring and will inform them of the anticipated duration of the burns, they will also notify the same entities when burn operations are complete.

Public will be notified through the OSU Campus Safety website http://safety.okstate.edu/ and on twitter @okstatesafety. The website will have a “prescribed burn” button or icon that links to a map of the area.
