Chief's Brief — October 2025
Tuesday, October 7, 2025
Welcome to this month’s Chief’s Brief — a monthly column to let you know what has
been happening on the campus, where you can meet an officer, have questions about
your university police department answered and find monthly safety tips.
I would like to thank everyone who came out to the 1 is 2 Many event and participated in Cover the Cruiser. The support you showed to survivors of sexual assault was overwhelming. Please visit the 1 is 2 Many webpage to learn more about the resources offered.
If you’re worried about someone or something, early intervention is key. OSU has established ways for individuals — including students, faculty and staff — to report their concerns. Visit campuslife.okstate.edu to learn more. If you feel that something requires immediate intervention, call the OSUPD at 405-744-6523 or, in the event of an emergency, dial 911 immediately.
Monthly Calls for Service
The OSU Police Department protects the Stillwater campus and also has a Tulsa division that provides service to OSU-Tulsa and the OSU Center for Health Sciences. Since the OSUPD added calls for service at CHS, and because more people are calling OSUPD to report suspicious activity and request assistance, the overall OSUPD calls for service are up 41% in September 2025 versus September 2024.
- Medical calls and theft of bicycles and scooters comprised the majority of police-related reports.
- Vehicle accidents decreased by 34%
- Arrests decreased by 44%
- Officers made 173 traffic stops. Of those, 28 were issued a citation and 145 were issued a warning.
Upcoming UPD Events:
- Oct. 8 — Project Safe Stop, O’Brate Stadium parking lot, 6 p.m.
- Oct. 11 — Cowboy football vs. Houston, 11 a.m.
- Oct. 17 — Walkaround
- Oct. 18 — Cowboy football Homecoming vs. Cincinnati
- Oct 30 — Family Resource Center Trunk or Treat, east lawn, 5-9 p.m.
Safety Tips:
- As the daylight hours dwindle, remember to be aware of your surroundings. OSUPD offers Safewalk escorts 24 hours a day, either through our student public safety officers or with a police officer.
- Pedestrians, as you are out in the early morning or at night, wear reflective clothing. If no reflective clothing is available, turn on your cell phone flashlight so that motorists can see you.
- Motorists, remember to slow down, turn on your headlights and look for pedestrians entering crosswalks around campus.
- Don’t forget to download the Rave Guardian app from the Apple or Google Play Store. For more information and links to download, visit safety.okstate.edu/safety-resources/rave-guardian.html.
If you see an area on campus that needs lighting, or a streetlight is not functioning, please let us know so we can pass on the information.
Questions or Suggestions? Email OSUPDCHIEF@okstate.edu.
We will see you around campus. GO POKES!
