Law enforcement responds to swatting call
Saturday, September 6, 2025
The OSU Police Department is investigating a case of swatting on the Stillwater campus. Swatting involves a fraudulent 911 call made reporting a (false) crisis which leads to a substantial response by first responders. Many universities across the country have been targeted in the last week.
The original call came through to the Stillwater Police Department around 10 p.m. and was transferred to the OSUPD 911 dispatchers, where the caller claimed an incident was taking place at the Edmon Low Library. A large number of officers responded out of abundance of caution — OSUPD, OHP, Payne County Sheriff's Office and the Stillwater Police Department — and found immediately that the call was a swatting call.
