Power Outage

There are many situations that may result in the loss of partial or full power to campus buildings.  

 

In the event of a power outage, personnel should: 

  • Notify the facilities management group for their campus.
  • Laboratory personnel should secure experiments or activities that may present a danger with the electrical power off or when it is restored unexpectedly.
    • Notify the lab supervisor and DEC immediately. For emergencies after hours, dial 911.
  • Do not perform procedures using hazardous materials until power is restored.
    • When mechanical ventilation is interrupted, vapors of chemicals may reach hazardous concentration levels.
    • Clean up or put away chemicals and close chemical containers and secure storage areas.
