This is a list of safety classes available from EHS. This list is not entirely comprehensive, and all classes can be modified to suit the needs of your OSU department or group. To schedule a class, please email ohsp@okstate.edu or call 405-744-7241.
- Aerial Lift
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Required at least every two years for any individual assigned job duties involving an aerial lift.

- Arc Flash
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Required annually for all maintenance personnel with the potential to come into contact with energy sources.
Cost: Free
- Asbestos Awareness
Course structure: EHS Instructed or Online Course
Required annually for all maintenance personnel with the potential to come into contact with asbestos-containing material during their normal work assignment.
Cost: Free
- Back Safety
Course structure: EHS Instructed or Online Course
Instruction on how to properly lift heavy objects encountered in various workplace environments. Covers dangers of back injuries caused by inappropriate lifting techniques.

- Bloodborne Pathogen
Course structure: EHS Instructed or Online Course
Required upon hire and annually thereafter for all faculty and staff who may come into contact with human blood or other potentially infectious materials. *online course is for awareness only, cannot take the place of instructed course*

Required annually for any maintenance worker required to enter a confined space as part of their work assignment.

- Construction Safety (Health)
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Provides a general overview of the various health hazards that members can be exposed to on a construction site.

- CPR/FA/AED
Course structure: EHS Instructed
American Heart Association’s steps of performing first aid, CPR on adults, relieving choking and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Cost: $35.00 per person / 8 members per class
- Eye Protection
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Provides a general overview of the personal protective standards, common eye injuries and how to prevent injuries.

- Fall Protection
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Required for employees who may be exposed to fall hazards to recognize the hazards and procedures to follow to minimize the hazards.

- Fire Safety
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Classroom instruction on basic fire safety, as well as guidance on proper use of a fire extinguisher.
Cost: Free
Hands-on fire extinguisher training.
Cost: $50.00 per class / 50 members per class
- Forklift
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Required initially and every three years thereafter for anyone assigned to operate a forklift as part of their duties. Hands on forklift operations are required.

- Grounds Safety
Course structure: EHS Instucted
Review of operations checks, personal protective equipment, operating procedures and how to prevent injuries.

- Hand Power Tools
Course structure: EHS Instructed or Online Course
Overview of hazards associated with hand power tools, basic safety rules, guards and inspections.

- HazWaste and Lab Safety
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Focuses on importance of applying general lab safety rules and regulations in a laboratory. Reviews general lab safety information including chemical, biological and hazardous waste storage, handling and disposal.

Required of all employees who are participants of the OSU Hearing Conservation Program.

- Heat Stress
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Review of hazards of working in high heat, how to recognize and avoid heat-related illnesses and procedures for performing first aid.

- Hypothermia/Cold Weather
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Review of hazards of working in low temperatures, how to recognize and avoid cold-related illnesses and procedures for performing first aid.

- Kitchen Safety

Review of most common injuries in restaurants and kitchens, hazards most likely to cause injuries and prevention. *video covers knife safety only*

Recognition of hazards related to ladders including proper use, care in handling and maximum intended load-carrying capacities of ladders.

Review of regulations, mechanical motions, type of guards, and safety devices.

- Mower Safety

- Office Ergonomic Class

Review of symptoms, posture and set up of office equipment to include monitors, keyboards, chairs….

- OSHA 10-hr Construction
Course structure: EHS Instructed
The OSHA Construction Industry Outreach Training Programs were developed by the OSHA Training Institute with the intent to assist employers in training and introducing employees to the basic practices of identifying, reducing, eliminating and reporting hazards associated with construction sites. Upon completion of the 9 training modules provided under this program, the attendees will be issued a card provided by Department of Labor.
Cost: $40.00 per person / 50 members per class

The OSHA General Industry Outreach Training Programs were developed by the OSHA Training Institute with the intent to assist employers in training and introducing employees to the basic practices of identifying, reducing, eliminating and reporting hazards associated with their work. Upon completion of the 10 training modules provided under this program, the attendees will be issued a card provided by Department of Labor.
Cost: $40.00 per person / 50 members per class

Provides information on accident causes, both employee and employer responsibilities in regards to safety and touches on fire, lab and office safety. *video covers how to create a safety culture only*

Review of standards, what is scaffolding, hazards associated with scaffolding, how to erect and inspect scaffolding and proper use.

- Skid Steer
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Required initially and every three years thereafter for anyone assigned to operate a skid steer as part of their duties. Hands on skid steer operations are required.

- Slip, Trip and Fall
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Identify common causes of slips, trips and falls, how to evaluate your workplace for hazards and how to control these hazards.

- Sun Safety
Course structure: EHS Instructed or Online Course
Covers skin problems, assessing risk, how to practice sun safety and spotting problems early.

- Tornado Safety
Course structure: EHS Instructed
Covers local weather hazards, focusing on tornadoes.

- Trenching/Shoring
Course structure: EHS Instructed
OSU policies and hazards related to excavation work, work practices and selection of protective systems and methods of evaluating the site and of conducting inspections.

- Wood Working Safety

Overview of hazards associated with wood working power tools, basic safety rules, guards and inspections.
