What do I do if...

If you are experiencing an emergency, are a witness or a victim to a crime in progress or one that has just occurred, call 911.

  • The call will be received in the OSUPD dispatch center where help can be sent, be it a response from police, the fire department, an ambulance or other first responder.

What do I do if I’ve been the victim of a crime?

If you are a victim of a crime, you are encouraged to make a report about the incident to the OSU Police or appropriate law enforcement agency. If you don’t know whose jurisdiction the incident happened in, the OSUPD can connect you with the right department. Make the report as quickly as you are able. Time is of the essence.

(1) Establish safety - find a place and ask for help if you need it.

(2) Care for Injuries - Go to the hospital to treat injuries and report the injuries are a result of a crime.

(3) Call the Police.

  • Call 911 for an emergency.
  • Call OSUPD at 405-744-6523 if there is no emergency
  • Contact OSUPD via Rave Guardian
  • Officers can meet with you at your location or you can also meet with an officer at the PD located at 104 USDA Building (southwest corner of Farm and Orchard).

(4) Officers will record the case facts and begin an investigation. Your case will be assigned a specific case number for reference.

Victims of a serious crime can request additional support like ministers, counselors, the university’s sexual assault victim’s advocate or a domestic violence representative during or after making the report.

What do I do if I’ve seen something suspicious?

(1) Ensure you are safe.

(2) Call the Police.

  • Call 911 for an emergency.
  • Call OSUPD at 405-744-6523 if there is no emergency
  • Contact OSUPD via Rave Guardian

(3) OSUPD encourages citizens to report any behavior they believe is suspicious indicating criminal activity.

Crime Statistics

  • Each day an activity summary listing the incidents reported on campus is published.
  • These statistics are eventually turned over to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation that in turn provides the information to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Each year, the FBI publishes a book of crime statistics called "Crime in the United States," which includes accurate accounting of the criminal incidents which occurred on the OSU Stillwater campus.
  • OSU has reported crime statistics in this manner since the FBI began publishing campus crime statistics in 1971.
  • The university is also federally required to publish an annual safety report.
