Scam involving the promise of an internship targets OSU students

The Oklahoma State University Police Department is investigating reports of a scam involving the promise of an internship. Students report receiving an email that appears to come from an OSU email address or one very similar.

Another victim falls prey to spoofing scam

January 12, 2021

An OSU student was the victim of fraud after a scammer spoofed the Oklahoma State University Police Department’s main phone line and claimed to be Chief Leon Jones.

Another financial scam noted in area

December 7, 2020

In this version, the individual is told they are the victim of identity theft or fraudulent charges made to their account. The contact is made via phone, text or email. A message tells the victim to contact “customer service” at a link or number provided. If the victim contacts “customer service,” the scammer tells the victim to take care of the issue by purchasing gift cards and providing the numbers, or transferring money.

About the department

The Oklahoma State University Police Department protects the OSU-Stillwater campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with more than 30 sworn officers, 12 support staff and more than 10 student employees covering the Stillwater campus plus Lake Carl Blackwell and agricultural research areas.
The department includes the OSU-Tulsa division with another eight full-time officers providing round-the-clock coverage for that campus.

SafeWalk

Oklahoma State is committed to keeping the Cowboy family safe. In 2014, the university launched the SafeWalk program, employing and training students as public service officers to escort anyone from one campus location to another from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week.

Lost and Found

The Oklahoma State University Police Department maintains the lost and found area for the Stillwater campus. All found items should be turned in to OSUPD, 224 N. Orchard (southwest corner of Farm Road and Orchard Avenue) in the USDA Building.

Personal Asset Inventory

Oklahoma State University has implemented a personal asset inventory service for all campuses. The system provides a place for students, faculty and staff to record the make, model, serial number and a photograph (optional) of valuables.
