Personal Safety Tips
Crime Prevention
It is a priority of Oklahoma State University to provide a safe and secure environment
for students to live and learn, employees to work and guests to visit. Unfortunately
crimes of all types do occur on a college campus.
The OSU Police Department investigates and makes public the nature of crimes, the quantity
and how they are investigated.
What do I do if...
If you are experiencing an emergency, are a witness or a victim to a crime in progress
or one that has just occurred, call 911.
If you are a victim of a crime, you are encouraged to make a report about the incident
to the OSU Police or appropriate law enforcement agency.
Victims of a serious crime can request additional support like ministers, counselors,
the university’s sexual assault victim’s advocate or a domestic violence representative
during or after making the report.
Security and Access Control
Residence halls have open access between the hours of 6 a.m. to midnight, Sunday through
Thursday, and 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. During non-open access hours,
all residence hall doors are locked except the front desk entrance. Individual rooms
should be locked at all times to ensure safety and outside doors should never be propped open.
It is the policy of Oklahoma State University to lock the doors of classroom buildings
and others when not in use. However, some buildings on campus are rarely locked since
students study and work on projects during various hours of the day and night. Please
keep individual offices locked since unrestricted access to a building could be possible.
