Personal Asset Inventory

Oklahoma State University has implemented a personal asset inventory service for all campuses. The system provides a place for students, faculty and staff to record the make, model, serial number and a photograph (optional) of valuables.

“Having that information exponentially increases the possibility that we will be able to locate the item,” said OSU Police Chief Leon Jones.

Jones said the department received a call a little over a year ago about a bicycle found in New York that had been stolen at OSU three years before.

“We were able to recover that bicycle because the serial number was available, and we were able to enter it into the National Crime Information Center, an electronic clearinghouse for crime data,” Jones said. “When students come to us and say their bikes have been stolen and they have no information, we have little chance of recovering it.”

Information entered into the online Personal Asset Inventory is confidential. It’s automatically deleted once a student graduates or an employee leaves.

The link to the Personal Asset Inventory is available on the my.okstate.edu portal under Quicklinks.
